About Joel Skinner
I am a lifelong Eugene and Springfield resident and music has always been a major part of my life, whether studying on my own, singing and arranging for choirs, or playing in various types of bands. I learned piano from my father in a non-traditional way, mostly by ear and through reading chord charts, and studied classical piano briefly before entering the school of music at the University of Oregon. I studied piano performance with Claire Wachter and Dean Kramer at the university for four years. Besides classical piano I also play jazz, blues, gospel, pop, and musical theater. After high-school I learned guitar and electric bass as well and enjoy each instrument.
I have worked with children in many different environments. In college I worked as an after-school care supervisor for elementary students. I homeschooled my own children for ten years. I’ve worked as a camp counselor for students of all ages at summer camps and on retreats. From 2010 to 2015 I owned an after-school art program teaching drawing skills to elementary aged children. I taught private piano lessons in my own studio from 2016-2017. I have also taught piano lessons for adults, some beginners and some advanced. Most of my work in music with adults has been helping people develop skills singing in vocal groups or playing together in various musical ensembles.

Sonare Singers is an after-school singing and music eduction program. Our goal is to increase access to excellent music education by providing after-school singing groups on site at local schools.
Sonare Singers teaches music and singing through activities that develop the child's voice, ear, and mind. We apply these techniques and lessons by learning to sing songs together and creating recordings to showcase what we've learned.

Follow the prompt to setup your preferred tuition method. There are multiple options including over the phone.
Keep an eye out for your confirmation email with important instructions about class days, schedule for the year, and other important info.
Tuition
Tuition is $15 per weekly one-hour class, and classes are grouped into 7 sessions per year (usually 5 weeks long). Each session focuses on new skills and new music. During our final class of each session we create a recording of what we've been working on!
Tuition payments are automatically divided 7 separate payments which correspond to the beginning of each session. We use stripe for payment processing to allow you to setup an automatic subscription for the year. Ideally students will stay enrolled for the entire year as the curriculum is designed to build skills over the course of seven sessions. If students need to un-enroll at the end of any session, they can do so and will not be charged for the remainder of the year.
Notes for Parents
Sonare updates school offices with enrollment lists to remind students to go to singers at the end of the day. If you are concerned your student might forget, please send a note with them to give to their teacher.
Students are encouraged to bring something small to snack on between the end of school and the beginning of singers (usually 5 minutes).
If you plan on picking up your student after class, please arrive within 5 minutes of the end of class. If you know your student will be absent, please email, call, or text to let us know.

To complete your registration, please use the button below to setup tuition for the year through Zoho SecurePay. Once setup, you will be automatically billed at the beginning of each session (about every 5 classes). If you need to unenroll, you are able to do so at the end of any session and your payment subscription will be cancelled.
You will also receive a confirmation email with important information about classes. Please save the email for reference.
